Network Audit

     Current and accurate records of your current network infrastructure are important in order to understand where your resources are currently allocated and if they are used correctly. By doing a network audit, our technical experts can verify that all parameters are documented and all hardware and software are up-to-date.  Their work confirms that each node configuration complies with your planned network standards and with our recommendations.

     A network audit can be used to:

  • Enhanced overall network performance, as part of routine maintenance;
  • Ensure adequacy for the current level of demand;
  • Identify areas of the network that will require attention in order to facilitate future growth;
  • Identify any performance issues caused by physical or logical configuration errors;
  • Verify current conditions prior to an expansion project or before introducing new equipment or services;
  • Ease integration when acquiring another company’s network assets.

     Audit findings typically reveal opportunities for immediate improvement and provide a baseline for future comparison. Optimizing product and network performance preserves maintainability, enhances operational efficiency, and contributes to high network availability. A network audit also delivers information that can help you meet important business objectives, including ROI and margin improvements, minimize the business risk relating to the network infrastructure, and lower the total cost of network ownership.

     Bit Networks can provide two types of network audits:

     Physical Assessment

     A Physical Assessment consists of discovery of network devices, collection of configurations, analysis of the data, and status reporting on the network devices. The analysis and reporting include:

  • Assessment  of hardware life cycle (how soon your hardware will become obsolete)
  • Identification of Cisco devices with insufficient memory
  • Categorization of Cisco Operating System (OS) software versions, flagging those with deferral or unsupported or insufficient to handle current or future needs
  • Serial Numbers registration for devices that support Simple Network Management
  • Protocol (SNMP) or terminal access support of serial numbers
  • Multivendor software and hardware components
  • Windows systems assessment.

      Operational Assessment

     An Operational Assessment is done to ensure compliancy with the International Standards Organization (ISO), ISO17799 standard for best practices in information security controls. There are ten sections of core controls that are evaluated through Operational Assessment:

  • Security Policy
  • Security Organization
  • Asset Classification and Control
  • Personnel Security
  • Physical and Environmental Security
  • Communications and Operational Management
  • Access controls
  • Systems Development and Maintenance
  • Business continuity Management
  • Compliance
